- Identify 2–3 specific hurdles that LGBTQIA+ individuals commonly face when seeking medical or mental health care.
- Explain at least one contributing factor to health disparities within the LGBTQIA+ community, including how intersecting identities (such as race, disability, or neurodivergence) can compound barriers to care.
- List 2–3 practical changes that counseling agencies, medical facilities, or private practices can implement in paperwork, intake processes, and treatment approaches to reduce barriers for LGBTQIA+ clients.

About the speaker
Laura Grafham Knapp, LPC-MHSP, MS (she/her)
Open Door Counseling, Clinical Director and Counselor
Laura Knapp is a queer, bisexual, cisgender provider based out of Nashville, Tennessee. She is the owner and clinical director of Open Door Counseling. She is also a spouse, a parent, and identifies as someone with ADHD and in active recovery. She has been working with folks in the LGBTQIA2S+ community since her internship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she worked with those at the local LGBTQ counseling center beginning in 2018. She worked in rural community mental health in Oklahoma prior to graduate schooling. Post-grad, she worked with a mobile crisis team in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in substance use and in transgender health with those on Medicaid, and finally as a private practice owner here in Nashville. She has had over 30 hours of training on providing trauma-informed care to the transgender community and had additional training in working with folks in the kink community and polyamorous/ENM communities. Laura is a psychodynamic therapist.
