Using ACT in the Treatment of Eating Disorders

This 1 hour training will provide an overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and discuss how ACT can be beneficial in both group and individual treatment for clients with eating disorders. ACT is a therapeutic framework where the aim is to increase the ability for mindful and values-guided action. Learning Objectives

Alicia Burress, MSW, LCSW

Clinical Development Lead & Primary Therapist
Alicia Burress is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Indiana where she serves as the Clinical Development Lead and as a Primary Therapist at Selah House. Alicia earned her BSW and MSW from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville and she has worked as a therapist for 15 years. The beginning of her career was spent working with the veteran and miliary populations through the Indiana Army National Guard. Since 2018, however, Alicia has been dedicated in her work at Selah House, where she has primarily served adolescent clients and their families in the treatment of eating disorders. In her role as Clinical Development Lead at Selah House Alicia is responsible for providing clinical skill development, supervision, and support for the clinical staff conducting specialized eating disorder treatment in the inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization programs. Additionally, Alicia co-facilitates equine assisted psychotherapy sessions at Selah with tenured Equine Specialist, Marcie Schott. She loves using a variety of therapeutic modalities in her work at Selah and feels that therapy is truly an art form. Furthermore, she believes it is important to have a variety of tools to choose from and utilize as a clinician. In addition to clinical work she is passionate about advocating and bringing awareness to the unique challenges that those with eating disorders face. Alicia has called Indiana home for much of her life and when she’s not working you can find her on her family’s farm with her 3 boys.
