Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) presents unique challenges in clinical settings, often requiring therapists to recognize and respond to symptoms as they emerge in real time. This workshop equips mental health professionals with the skills to identify key symptoms of BPD during sessions and apply effective clinical interventions to foster more productive therapeutic interactions. Participants will deepen their clinical understanding of BPD, enhancing their ability to navigate emotional dysregulation, interpersonal sensitivity, and crisis behaviors with confidence and skill. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to improve client outcomes and strengthen therapeutic rapport.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify at least three key symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD) that commonly manifest during a therapy session.
  • Demonstrate the use of at least two evidence-based clinical interventions to effectively manage BPD symptoms in real-time during a session.
  • Summarize how BPD symptom presentation influences client-therapist interactions and treatment outcomes.

  • Lila Galustian, LMFT

    Lila Galustian (she, her, hers) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in the treatment of emotion dysregulation and personality disorders. Helping each client develop a life worth living, she leverages an engaging style that is radically genuine with a dash of irreverence. Previously she was the clinical director at Resilience’s residential and partial hospitalizations programs, where she developed the use of DBT for treating patients with psychosis and skills application for treating patients with BPD. She earned a master’s in clinical psychology with a concentration in child and adolescent development from Antioch University, honing her skills as a DBT therapist at Clearview Treatment Centers and later became Clinical Director at Village Counseling and Wellness.
