Understanding Thought Disorders for Clinical Assessment and Treatment

CE Hours 1

About this live event

Thought disorders encompass a spectrum of cognitive disturbances that significantly impact an individual's perception, thinking processes, and behavior. Proficiency in the various thought disorders and familiarity with validated assessment tools will help a clinician to recognize and distinguish between various types of thought disorders, including but not limited to: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, and brief psychotic disorder. The presentation will address the etiology of thought disorders, examining the interplay between genetic predisposition, neurobiological factors, and environmental stressors in the development and expression of these conditions. Participants will gain insight into the profound impact of thought disorders on individuals' daily functioning, interpersonal relationships, and quality of life, fostering empathy and understanding in clinical practice. A review of current research and clinical guidelines will highlight evidence-based treatment modalities for thought disorders, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and psychosocial interventions. This course content is designed to cultivate a comprehensive clinical understanding of thought disorders, empowering clinicians to effectively assess, diagnose, and intervene in the management of these complex conditions. A clinical understanding of thought disorders can facilitate improved patient outcomes, strengthen therapeutic alliances, and reduce stigma associated with psychotic populations.
