Movement: Intuitive versus Excessive

CE Hours 1

About this course

Many clients struggling with eating disorders tend to have a difficult or negative relationship with exercise. I've heard many of my clients over the years mention beginning to look at exercise as "bad" because it has served such a negative presence in their lives. This thought process creates a wedge between the individual and learning what intuitive and joyful movement can be in recovery. When viewed from a recovery lens, movement can be fun and freeing. My hope is that by the end of this presentation, you will have a good understanding on the distinction between exercise versus movement and the difference when used as a manner to fuel well-being versus the eating disorder.

Course Instructor(s)

  • Leigh-Ann Bamberg, MS, RDN, LD, CEDS-S

Leigh-Ann Bamberg has served as a member of the Magnolia Creek team for over seven years. She currently serves as the Director of Nutrition Services and takes pride in the care and supervision she has the opportunity to provide for each client who enters Magnolia Creek. Leigh-Ann has worked in the area of behavioral health and more specifically, eating disorder care, for close to a decade and is certain Magnolia Creek is currently where she is called to serve. While Leigh-Ann’s nutrition philosophy surrounding restoration and recovery is ultimately founded in planting the seeds of the intuitive eating and health at every size principles, her ultimate goal and desire is to help clients break free from the chains of their eating disorder to rediscover their purpose in who they were created to be. Leigh-Ann has completed the IAEDP training required to be a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor and in addition to client care, enjoys providing supervision for dietitians looking to grow and evolve in their eating disorder practice.

Leigh-Ann initially graduated from The University of Mobile with a Bachelor of Science in Human Performance and Exercise Science with a concentration in Exercise Physiology. She then continued her education at The University of Alabama and earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Food and Nutrition. As someone who has gone through the treatment and recovery process, Leigh-Ann desires to help others discover true freedom and body acceptance in the same way that she was able.
