Body Neutrality, Diet Culture, and the Treatment of Eating Disorders

About this course

This presentation will discuss the concepts of body neutrality and diet culture and how they impact the development and treatment of eating disorders. Specific topics will address integrating body neutrality into eating disorder treatment, identifying how diet culture has damaged clients’ relationships with food and bodies, and how to assist clients in pushing back against harmful messages in the media. The presenter will also provide insight into how social media in particular influences diet culture and body trends.

    Emily Teegarden is the Clinical Practice Manager at Aster Springs Outpatient Cincinnati. She has eight years of experience treating eating disorders at the outpatient, IOP, and PHP levels of care. Emily is also passionate about challenging weight stigma and promoting body neutrality.
